I grew up in the Midwest, in the country, and my childhood home was very near to Des Plaines River.  My brother and I spent many of our youthful days at the river.   In the summer we would be fishing and skipping stones, and in the winter ice skating.
This week’s Haiku Horizon Prompt “skip” caused me to remember those fun times we had trying to skip stones across the river. 🙂

Haiku Horizons Weekly Challenge:  Week #117  Prompt: Skip

Little did I know that there are actually “Stone Skipping Championships”!

The Tree

Monoku poem about a favorite tree
Original Poetry and Photographs by Leona J. Atkinson ©2016

“The Tree” was a beautiful addition to my daughter’s yard. In the springtime it was full of beautiful pink flowers, in the summer it provided welcome shade from the hot sun, and it’s big branch held a swing for the kids.  But…over the years, with all the Oregon rain, it began to bend and break, it’s roots just couldn’t hold on any longer and finally last winter during a bad storm it fell.  Now, all that is left of it is pictures, a sweet memory, firewood and it’s stump, where one green shoot is now growing up, perhaps to be it’s replacement.

Not Tellin’

Tanka poem about a humorous experience
Original Poetry and Photograph by Leona J. Atkinson ©2014

What a reply!  I never expected that! “I’m not tellin’ ” I said!  LOL!
I met this little guy today while I was cashiering at work.
He was a bundle of energy and full of questions!
His mom must sure have her hands full with him and his brother who are twins!
But, he sure made my day and gave us all a good laugh with his reply to my question!
I just had to write this poem to hold onto the memory of him and this encounter!

Wonderful Wisteria

Wisteria
Wisteria

The old fence is hidden by
Your purple pendent clusters.
The sight of you brings joy to my morning
as your fragrance permeates the air.
My senses react pleasantly, and
my mind marks a memory of this moment.
Wisteria, starting the day with you
has enriched my life and uplifted my spirits.
