Power Outage

Power cord in outlet with light bulb

As darkness creeps in,

Fear raises its ugly head.

Silence prevails.

I pray for a solution.

Suddenly light fills the room!

The power went out this evening all over town. No one seemed to know what caused the widespread outage.

It was near supper time and getting close to sunset. Darkness was slowly coming upon us and hunger was also. The silence was deafening in my home as I’d become accustomed to hearing the sound of the refrigerator, computer and hum of other appliances. Time passed slowly. I wondered how much longer we all would be without the conveniences electricity brings. I tried not to use my phone in order to save the battery since I didn’t know when I’d be able to charge it again. I prayed whatever happened would get repaired soon.

And then, after waiting an hour and a half the lights came back on! What a welcoming sight! It’s amazing how dependent we’ve become on electricity isn’t it?

  1. It’s amazing how much we rely on electricity. I don’t know about you, but when our power is out I tend to flip the light switch or go to use something electric not thinking until it doesn’t work, then it dawns on me that it’s out. It’s such an automatic response because we are so used to it.
