Bouquet of Roses

Roses--Tanka poem

Saw this beautiful rose bush growing along the sidewalk as I was on my way to the library.  I was reminded of the quote “Take Time to Stop and Smell the Roses”.  I did that and also took time to photograph them.  Beautiful addition to my summer day. 🙂

A Landay is “a form of folk poetry from Afghanistan. Meant to be recited or sung aloud, and frequently anonymous, the form is a couplet comprised of 22 syllables. The first line has 9 syllables and the second line 13 syllables. Landays end on “ma” or “na” sounds and treat themes such as love, grief, homeland, war, and separation.”

Fields of Lavender

A Lavender Day
A Lavender Day

Though you are miles away

Your fragrance fills the air,
Drawing me to the place where you grow,
and spread your purple splendor as far as my eyes can see.

Lavender,  the loveliness of you should be enjoyed more than just one day in May.

Lovely Lilacs

Lilacs
Lilacs

Lilac!  The sight of you is like the visit of an old friend.

Your fragrance brings back fond memories of childhood
days in May when you bloomed in my front yard.

We children would run and play while enjoying the scent
you surrounded us with.

Mother would let us pick bouquets of you to grace our table and
to share with neighbors who were not as fortunate to own a bush such as you.

Lilac,  I loved you as a child,
and I still enjoy your purple splendor in my yard
and upon my table in May.

Wonderful Wisteria

Wisteria
Wisteria

The old fence is hidden by
Your purple pendent clusters.
The sight of you brings joy to my morning
as your fragrance permeates the air.
My senses react pleasantly, and
my mind marks a memory of this moment.
Wisteria, starting the day with you
has enriched my life and uplifted my spirits.
