A Firm Foundation

Big solid rock

Earth’s tickling my feet,

Sensations surround my mind,

Running to escape, I

Keep reaching towards heaven,

Grasping above me,

Looking for a life line,

A hand reaches down,

Lifts me to another level,

Where I stand on solid rock.

Choka

On Christ, the solid rock, I stand

All other ground is sinking sand…”

from “My Hope Is Built on Nothing Less”, a Christian hymn written by Edward Mote, a pastor at Rehoboth Baptist Church in Horsham, West Sussex. Mote wrote around 100 hymns, this one, which he wrote in 1834, being the best known of his.

Flu

Corona Virus symbol

Some words we like

Others not so much

These days it’s true

There’s one word

No one wants to hear

“CoronaVirus”

We can’t stop our ears

From hearing it’s sound

Or close our eyes

To block it from sight

But we can focus

Our minds to not dwell

On this dismal word

We can use prayer

To ask for our God’s help

And for His wisdom

And strength at this time

Syllabic Verse

Praying this word is soon no longer part of our vocabulary.

Speak Seeds

Plant, in hands, seedling

Twas just a few words

They caused a mind to think

A seed was planted

Senryu

Words are also seeds, and when dropped into the invisible spiritual substance, they grow and bring forth after their kind. –Charles Fillmore

(So then, be sure the words you speak are good words)

Resting in Him

Bible, coffee cup, Psalm 94:19 scripture

As my heart fills with perplexity

And threatens to overwhelm my soul

My minds fills with Your words to me

Comforting with precious

Promises so sweet

And remembrance

Of Your care

Towards

Me

In the multitude of my thoughts within me thy comforts delight my soul. Psalm 94:19 KJV

Revival

Leaf in the wind drawing
“leaf in the wind” drawing by LeonasDesigns

My mind wasn’t focused on You

Like a leaf in the wind

It swirled and twirled

And got carried away

To wander in places of doubt

Coming to rest on the fence of indecision

Caught in the fear of unknown

Where it began to wither away

Without purpose

Until the force of Your divine breath

Caused it to stir, awaken, and break free

To soar to higher places

And sit in the heavenlies

At Your feet

Soaking in the truth of Your word

Now it’s a mind renewed

To do good works

And walk in Your Spirit on earth

It no longer wanders aimlessly

Blown by winds of uncertainty

For it awaits resurrection

Where it will live forever

On the tree of life.

Color Beyond Better

Colored pencils forming a heart shape

Broken crayons still color

Broken hearts still love

Color your world bright

Color is beautiful

Love everyone

Love never fails

Bright spots attract growth

Bright days attract smiles

Beautiful smiles

Beautiful thoughts

Everyone needs a smile

Everyone matters

Fails are bound to happen

Fails are opportunities to try again

Growth comes from fails

Growth often happens slowly

Smiles are free

Smiles are needed

Smiles are upside down frowns

Smiles lighten up the world

Thoughts spoken can cause regret

Thoughts unspoken can cause regret

Smile at life, you only get one chance

Smile at life and things will go better

Matters of the heart

Matters of the mind

Happen to all of us

Happen unexpectedly

Again and again and

Again and again

Fails are just one time errs not failures

Fails are a chance to try something new

Slowly time goes for those who wait

Slowly time goes for the lonely

Free yourself from doubts trust God

Free yourself from worry trust God

Needed people who are friendly

Needed people who care

Frowns compliment garments of gloom

Frowns are smiles upside down

World needs your love

World needs your smile

Regret steals happiness

Regret steals time

Chance offers new opportunities

Chance offers new life

Better life can be yours today

Better take a chance before it’s too late

Better

Better

Blitz

#OctPoWriMo 2018

Whew! This is my first try at writing a Blitz poem! It was a challenge, somewhat confusing at times, and took me awhile but I enjoyed it and I will be trying this form out again! Info is below if you would like to try writing one.

The Blitz Poem, a poetry form created by Robert Keim.

This form of poetry is a stream of short phrases and images with repetition and rapid flow.

Begin with one short phrase, it can be a cliché. Begin the next line with another phrase that begins with the same first word as line 1. The first 48 lines should be short, but at least two words.

The third and fourth lines are phrases that begin with the last word of the 2nd phrase, the 5th and 6th lines begin with the last word of the 4th line, and so on, continuing, with each subsequent pair beginning with the last word of the line above them, which establishes a pattern of repetition.

Continue for 48 total lines with this pattern, And then the last two lines repeat the last word of line 48, then the last word of line 47.

The title must be only three words, with some sort of preposition or conjunction joining the first word from the third line to the first word from the 47th line, in that order.

There should be no punctuation. When reading a BLITZ, it is read very quickly, pausing only to breathe.

(Blitz poem info was taken from Poetry Soup website )

Truth or Fiction?

Pictures of Sunset and Clouds in Oregon
Actual Pictures of Sunset and Clouds taken in Oregon

Things are not always as they seem.

What we see may not be what is.

Sometimes eyes play tricks,

And our mind does also.

We need to ask ourself,

Is reality

Truly what

My eyes do

See?
