NaPoWriMo–Day 13–Metaphor poem

I enjoyed this challenge of writing my first Metaphor poem, for I liked the memory it brought.
The poem is actually about me.  When I was a little girl.  I used to sit in a big comfy chair (actually mine was red at that time, but later in life I did actually have a big pink wing-backed chair.)
I would sit for hours in the living room and read,
and dream of faraway places, and imagine I was on a flying carpet!  Books really can take you places!  🙂  Fun memory!

In the Midst of the Mist

It always amazes me how our mind can get carried away when we can’t see things clearly or how our imaginations begin to flow when we come upon the unexpected or unexplained.  “In the Midst of the Mist”  is an imaginary story that shows us the importance of not letting ourselves get overcome by fear, or letting our emotions get out of control, by imagining things that may not be true, just because we can’t see the whole picture clearly.

Giving Up…

Giving Up--Decuain poem
Original Poetry and Photograph by Leona J. Atkinson ©2014

I wrote this poem, sadly, because of a conversation with a person who is dear to me that was experiencing feelings of giving up because of recent circumstances in his life. As we talked, he asked me what empathy meant.  I explained it’s meaning.  His tears moved me to realize that is what he was looking for, and not finding it, he was too weak to continue his search.  The poem is written to express his feelings.  However, I have hope that my actions and prayers will be the helping hand he needs at this time.
