Creation reveals the Creator

Vic_Viv_LincolnCity_073113I gaze upon the ocean with her mighty roar,
while above me the eagle does soar.

A crab, which is a work of Your
Own Hands,
is displayed for me upon the sands,

as I walk and think and pray,
I give You thanks for every day.

Thanks for the sun that shines and the moon’s fair light,
the trees that shade and the stars at night.
You made it all and called it good,
in six short days, as only You could.

As I look around me and bless Your name,
I must remember Your greatest acclaim,

the image of Yourself, created in others and me,
people, reflecting Your beauty for all to see.

A Tribute to a Light House

Light House.
Beacon of light,
Leading us safely to shore.
Keep us from danger as we explore.
Shine bright!

Tall tower.
Our guiding light,
Shining out over the sea,
Bringing each vessel safely to thee.
Keep on!

Sentry.
Even in fog,
Your horns sound deep and loud,
To warn us of the foggy shroud.
Our hope!

Striped one.
Each day and night,
You show us the right way,
So that on course we can safely stay.
Stand tall!

Sea guide.
Security,
You give in sight and sound,
To us, whenever you are around.
Thank you!

This poem was written in honor of National Lighthouse Day.  On August 7, 1789, the United States Congress approved an act for the “establishment and support of Lighthouse, Beacons, Buoys, and Public Piers.”  It was two hundred years later that Congress designated August 7 as National Lighthouse Day.

Patriotic Pantoum

Flowing over me,
Come thoughts of liberty,
Every time our Flag I see,
Flying over land or sea.

Come!  Thoughts  of liberty.
I welcome you to dwell in me,
Every time our Flag I see.
For you’re a reminder I am free!

I welcome you to dwell in me,
Patriotic thoughts of liberty!
For you’re a reminder I am free.
At times I need you desperately!

Patriotic thoughts of liberty,
Every time our Flag I see.
At times I need you desperately,
Flowing over me.

Pantoum-rhyme scheme aaaa
(This is my first attempt at writing a Pantoum.  It was a challenge, and even more so, because I chose to rhyme it aaaa instead of the usual abab)

NaPoWriMo 2013, #3–The Cry of the Gulls

Mama said “Don’t go, dear son of mine,
I don’t want my boy in that salty brine.
Stay home and work with me instead,
Help me bake and deliver the bread.”

But oh the cry, the cry of the Gulls,
Keeps callin’ me to the sea,
But oh the cry, the cry of the Gulls,
Just won’t let me be.

“I’m sorry Mama, I just have to go,
please understand and don’t say no,
for that salty sea is beckoning me,
and it’s where I want to be.”

For the cry, the cry of the Gulls,
keeps callin’ me to the sea,
For the cry, the cry of the Gulls,
Just won’t let me be.

“Someday soon I might settle down,
to work and live in your little town,
But, right now Mama, I must go to sea,
For those Gulls keep callin’ me.

Oh the cry, the cry of the Gulls,
Keeps callin’ me to the sea,
Oh the cry, the cry of the Gulls,
Just won’t let me be.

“Sorry Mama, I love the sea.”
