My mouth wants to speak
But not a sound will come forth
At a loss for words
My heart cries out in despair
The Creator hears and responds

An interesting day.
I learned a thing or two.
I did something,
I thought I’d never do.
I took the challenge.
I fiercely saw it through.
This made an ordinary day,
Into something quite brand new.
Opportunity visited,
And I made my debut.

Cloudy
Rain predicted
Alarm clock is beeping
I awake and choose to sleep in
Good choice

Another day of life
A new opportunity
My daily happiness
Given by the grace of God
I choose to rejoice and be glad

Light House.
Beacon of light,
Leading us safely to shore.
Keep us from danger as we explore.
Shine bright!
Tall tower.
Our guiding light,
Shining out over the sea,
Bringing each vessel safely to thee.
Keep on!
Sentry.
Even in fog,
Your horns sound deep and loud,
To warn us of the foggy shroud.
Our hope!
Striped one.
Each day and night,
You show us the right way,
So that on course we can safely stay.
Stand tall!
Sea guide.
Security,
You give in sight and sound,
To us, whenever you are around.
Thank you!

This poem was written in honor of National Lighthouse Day. On August 7, 1789, the United States Congress approved an act for the “establishment and support of Lighthouse, Beacons, Buoys, and Public Piers.” It was two hundred years later that Congress designated August 7 as National Lighthouse Day.
