There is much controversy on the sky trails seen in my area. These are the white trails left from planes flying overhead.
Some say they are contrails (condensation) and some say they are chemtrails (chemicals).
Every day I see many of these trails–sometimes 3 or 4 at a time–it does cause one to wonder what they really are….

This poem was inspired by my daughter Laura’s viewing of a moth in flight. (She actually wrote a poem that she gave me permission to edit, which I did and transformed it into this Tanka.) The moth she watched was flying free and graceful until he got too close to the light. Then, zap! He was gone….sad. She and I saw kind of a lesson in this, in that we should be careful of getting too close to things that attract us because they might not be good for us and we could suffer for it!
Some good information found on why moths are attracted to light:
“Moths frequently appear to circle artificial lights, although the reason for this behavior remains unknown. One hypothesis to explain this behavior is that moths use a technique of celestial navigation called transverse orientation. By maintaining a constant angular relationship to a bright celestial light, such as the moon, they can fly in a straight line. Celestial objects are so far away, that even after travelling great distances, the change in angle between the moth and the light source is negligible; further, the moon will always be in the upper part of the visual field, or on the horizon. When a moth encounters a much closer artificial light and uses it for navigation, the angle changes noticeably after only a short distance, in addition to being often below the horizon. The moth instinctively attempts to correct by turning toward the light, causing airborne moths to come plummeting downward, and resulting in a spiral flight path that gets closer and closer to the light source.” “Why Are Moths Attracted to Flame?”. npr.org. Flowing over me,
Come thoughts of liberty,
Every time our Flag I see,
Flying over land or sea.
Come! Thoughts of liberty.
I welcome you to dwell in me,
Every time our Flag I see.
For you’re a reminder I am free!
I welcome you to dwell in me,
Patriotic thoughts of liberty!
For you’re a reminder I am free.
At times I need you desperately!
Patriotic thoughts of liberty,
Every time our Flag I see.
At times I need you desperately,
Flowing over me.
Pantoum-rhyme scheme aaaa
(This is my first attempt at writing a Pantoum. It was a challenge, and even more so, because I chose to rhyme it aaaa instead of the usual abab)
