Friends-You and Me

Quote “We are all different flowers from the same garden” image from Pinterest
image from Pinterest

You go to bed before the sun sets

I am a night owl, burning the midnight oil

Yet we are friends

You like hazelnuts, spice cake, and tea

I like licorice, mint and coffee

Yet we are friends

You like cool nights and enjoy the rain

I like it warm and enjoy hot summer days

Yet we are friends

You like flip flops and air conditioning

I like sneakers and natural air

Yet we are still friends

Your skin is a different color from mine

My skin is a different color from yours

Yet we are friends

We are all different

We are all unique

That’s what makes us each special

We all have likes and dis-likes

Our skin maybe a different color

But we can still all be friends

We can agree to disagree

Walk in friendship and love

And enjoy a life of harmony

Sharing with each other

Every nation, tribe, language and people.

For we are all God’s Masterpiece according to Ephesians 2:10

I had been wanting to create a place to share my painted rocks with others and also offer the opportunity for others to place and share rocks they paint, so after several months of hoping, dreaming, planning and praying it came to fruition in a wonderful way and today it was completed! I am very happy with how it all turned out and feel blessed that it has already been noticed, used, and admired by many in my neighborhood. I am hoping now that it continues to grow and expand!

Who Done It ?

Moon, earth, universe, blackness

And the earth was without form,

(Unorganized, shapeless, chaotic, crude

Actually it was quite rough and rude)

and void; (useless,unoccupied, empty,

Nothing meaningful for any to see)

and darkness,

(Ruled, all robed in black, did creep

All around and) was upon the face of the deep.

And Abimelech said,

(Many years later while on earth he tread,)

“I wot not who hath done this thing: neither didst thou tell me,

neither yet heard I of it, but to day.”

According to NaPoWriMo’s Day 14 Prompt: Grab a book that is nearest to you. Start the poem with the second sentence in the book and then add the 15th sentence from page 24 somewhere else in the poem

So the book nearest to me at the time was my bible and so this poem Is based on:

Genesis 1:2 and Genesis 21:26

The words in parentheses are mine, the others are from the Bible and are italicized.

It’s kind of interesting how these two sentences fit together. 😊

In the Latter Season of Life

Fall season

In the Fall season of life

It seems the sun wanes,

It’s lost its strength.

It doesn’t cast warm rays as long,

Nor with as great intensity,

As when in its summer season

Of life.

Then it was so bright and strong,

Vibrant, heated, remaining long,

But now it’s lost it’s fervor.

Yet, it still shines.

It still rises.

It still does what it was created to do.

It gives light,

Even though limited.

It doesn’t give up.

It shows up.

Do you?

Pearce Campus

Pierce Campus, Zion IL.
Pearce Campus, Zion, IL.-Image from Pinterest.com

I Remember freshman hall, lockers slamming, saddle shoes running, clock ticking, four minute bell ringing.

I Remember upside down and backwards padlocks, cleats clicking on shiny floors, frustration at boyish pranks.

I Remember hall monitors sitting straight up in square tan desks checking hall passes.

I Remember English class, the Ides of March, Julius Caesar, “Et Tu, Brute” and our teacher, Miss Barton, reading aloud to us.

I Remember pony tails, petticoats, angora sweaters and class rings on neck chains.

I Remember GAA initiation, walking through peeled grapes and cooked spaghetti blindfolded, trying not to scream.

I Remember every stair and hallway, where they led, and the shortcuts only upper classmen knew about.

I Remember graduation day, on the football field, my classmates and I shedding bittersweet tears as we marched to “Pomp and Circumstance”.

I Remember signing annuals in the rotunda on the last day of school, not realizing those words would remain longer than the building we were standing in.

I Remember Pearce Campus before its bricks were sold and it became a parking lot.

Free Verse/Repetition Poem

I wrote this poem as an imitation of Joe Brainerd’s poem “I Remember” as spoken of in “Adventures in Anaphora” by Rebecca Hazelton.

I wrote it in memory of my old high school campus which was just torn down last summer and turned into a paved parking lot. I attended classes there from 1959-1962. The building held many memories before I attended and many afterwards.  Its destruction touched the hearts of many people.

Inspiration

Original photo of a soap bubble

I am the morning dew glistening

I am the sun shining

I am a bird singing

I am a flower blooming

I am a squirrel scurrying

I am the wind swirling

I am a leaf falling

I am a tear on a cheek

I am an aging voice

I am a child’s laughter

I am a stranger’s smile

I am a mother’s hug

I am a spoken word

I stand at your door knocking

I stand waiting for you to find me

I stand in the silence of night

I stand amid the noisy throng

I stand among your daily moments

Mom Thoughts

Welcome Bear lawn statue

How fast the toilet paper goes

And the shampoo too

Food in the fridge

vanishes

Yet laundry and trash pile up

The house is filled with people

Chattering, moving,

Echoing life

To rooms once empty and silent

Peace is now hard to find

Among so many different

Personalities

Cupboards are looking bare

As is my bank balance

But my heart is happy

The kids are home again

Thanksgiving

Fall Oak Leaf

Thank you God

For the trees that wave

Good Morning

To me

As I gaze in wonder

At he whose wings beat wildly

While he drinks nectar

In the rain

The breeze brings

a brown leaf to greet me

Upon the window pane

He stops briefly

As if to say

We are both aged

yet

let’s keep moving, seeking,

Another day of life

As if on cue

future minded squirrel

scurries past

gathering acorns

supplied by the waving trees

Ah, so much life surrounds me!

I give thanks

For all that be

and for eyes that see

thru the window to the world

Just outside my door

Where all God’s creation breathes

And lives

And encourages me

To do the same.

Revival

Leaf in the wind drawing
“leaf in the wind” drawing by LeonasDesigns

My mind wasn’t focused on You

Like a leaf in the wind

It swirled and twirled

And got carried away

To wander in places of doubt

Coming to rest on the fence of indecision

Caught in the fear of unknown

Where it began to wither away

Without purpose

Until the force of Your divine breath

Caused it to stir, awaken, and break free

To soar to higher places

And sit in the heavenlies

At Your feet

Soaking in the truth of Your word

Now it’s a mind renewed

To do good works

And walk in Your Spirit on earth

It no longer wanders aimlessly

Blown by winds of uncertainty

For it awaits resurrection

Where it will live forever

On the tree of life.
