Patriotic Pantoum

Flowing over me,
Come thoughts of liberty,
Every time our Flag I see,
Flying over land or sea.

Come!  Thoughts  of liberty.
I welcome you to dwell in me,
Every time our Flag I see.
For you’re a reminder I am free!

I welcome you to dwell in me,
Patriotic thoughts of liberty!
For you’re a reminder I am free.
At times I need you desperately!

Patriotic thoughts of liberty,
Every time our Flag I see.
At times I need you desperately,
Flowing over me.

Pantoum-rhyme scheme aaaa
(This is my first attempt at writing a Pantoum.  It was a challenge, and even more so, because I chose to rhyme it aaaa instead of the usual abab)

Clerihew poem

Leona J. Atkinson  07-10-13

This poem was written in honor of NATIONAL CLERIHEW DAY which is celebrated on July 10 of each year.
The Clerihew poem was invented by Edmund Clerihew Bently, (1875-1956).
A Clerihew is a whimsical, four-line biographical poem, in an aabb form.

Not Carefree

In my imagination,
I see a day that’s red light free.
No stopping or starting,
Just cruising happily.
I’d reach my destination,
So very easily,
If I had nothing in the way,
To bring delay to me.
Yet life is not that simple,
And in true reality.
A few red lights are always needed,
To make me stop and see,
That often an interruption,
Becomes a great possibility.
One which could be missed,
by living a green light fantasy.
