Tears of Regret

Above,

Soft voice speaks:

“Saint, why are you crying?”

“My heart has been wounded today

I’m hurt”

I say.

“Ah, tis so I see”

Says He from high above.

“Why is your armor in your closet

Today?”

“Forgot”

I reply shamefully,

Hanging my head in woe.

“I was in a hurry and had places

To go”.

“I see”

Says He from high,

“ Your mind and body was

Unprotected from the enemy’s wiles

And so,

He had

Access to harm

You. Dear Saint always be

Aware and your armor to wear

Each day”

Adversary Aggression

Lion in sunset

He attacks with vengence!

What is it the enemy fears?

Observe his means.

What is the main strategy

That he uses to frighten you?

Tanka

You can discover what your enemy fears most by observing the means he uses to frighten you. —Eric Hoffer

Unclad

Unworn Armor

We smiled, chittering and chattering

As daylight filled with bright sunshine

Spilled upon us walking sprightly.

In the distance a lion roared

But the sound did not reach

Our quiescent ears

Dulled by sleep.

Our guard down,

The lion

Strikes!

Caught

Off guard

We scramble

To stand and fight

The enemy attack.

Unprepared for battle,

Head and heart vulnerable

To fleshly fear and worldly anger,

We attempt to vanquish our beastly foe

Unprotected. We cry out for God to help us!

Spring in My Step

Daffodils in red vase

Walking down the street

Daffodils strewn all about

Flowers at my feet

Happenstance recipient

Of Random Act of Kindness

Tanka

Today as I was walking downtown in search of a restaurant, my eyes beheld a strange sight. I was passing by an old abandoned theatre and there, in the entrance way were scattered 5 fresh, bright golden daffodils, just waiting for a leading lady to pick up. How fortuitous for me!

To My Younger Self

Old woman with young woman

I once was you before you were me.

If I’d known then, what I know now,

I would have told you this:

Remember your creator

in the days of youth,

And listen to

Your parents

Stories,

For

Times

Will come

When you will

Wish you had done

All of that and more.

I would have told you

To plan well for your future

Since someday you would grow old,

Wish you had, but it would be too late.
