Never Give up

Large rock, dandelions

Are you

Facing a rock

Being seen as unwanted

Seeing your chance for wishes

Cut down

Before

They had the opportunity to

Become airbourne

Never give up

Stand firm

Dig in

Let your faith grow

Deep, be tenacious, for

Someday, someone will stop

Admire

And see

Your beauty and your true worth

For we all have a purpose

That’s waiting to be

Fulfilled

Double Butterfly Cinquain

Today as I was out walking I stopped near this big rock where I saw two dandelions blooming and one that had gone to seed lying down on the ground as if crushed, probably by the landscapers mower hitting it.

It intrigued me enough to snap a picture and also was inspiration for this poem.

Redoubtable Enemy

Knights in battle

Quite fearful, yes,

A formidable opponent,

Sent to cause fear.

Yet God’s Armor protects me,

If I but wear it,

And stand firm resisting this

Foe, who hurls his darts

Of doubt, trying to wound my heart,

Until they meet the shield of faith.

Poem Inspired by Dictionary.com—Word Of The Day—Redoubtable

Origin

English redoubtable comes from Middle English redoutable “terrible, frightening, worthy of honor, venerable,” ultimately from Old French redotable, redoubtable, a derivative of the verb redouter “to fear, dread.” Redouter is formed from a French use of the prefix re- as an intensive (for instance, in refine), a use that Latin re- does not have, and from Latin dubitāre “to doubt, hesitate, waver” (but not “to fear”). Redoubtable entered English in the first half of the 15th century.

Standing on The Rock

Bird standing on rocks

I will never give up or in

Though the way is hard and long

Through fortitude I’ll win

I will never give up or in

I have Christ’s power within

To help me stay strong

I will never give up or in

Though the way is hard and long

Insecurity Vanquished

Hands holding bible

Filled with doubt I elect to stand

Holding fast His words in my hand

I trust and overcome fear,

Embrace life, enemies sneer, as they disband

Florette

(Based on Psalm 37: 39-40

But the salvation of the righteous is of the LORD: he is their strength in the time of trouble. And the LORD shall help them, and deliver them: he shall deliver them from the wicked, and save them, because they trust in him.)

They Said—I Said

Big tree

They said “Just give in”

They said “You’ll never get far”

They said “ You won’t win”

They said “Just give in”

They said “ Don’t even begin”

They said “Who you think you are?”

They said “Just give in”

They said “You’ll never get far”

I said “ I won’t give in”

I said “ I’ll make it someday”

I said “ I will soon win”

I said “ I won’t give in”

I said “ I will begin”

I said “ I will soon find a way”

I said “ I won’t give in”

I said “ I’ll make it someday”

Facing Fear

Overcoming fear, man jumping over a rock of fear

For many a year

I lived with my greatest fear.

Controlled by his power,

I used to cower

At the thought of leaving him.

But as my eyes became dim,

I had to make a choice

To listen to him, or another’s voice

Who was telling me

From this fear I had to flee.

So as God held my hand,

I made a stand!

I faced that fear, told it to go.

It stared at me, and it said “NO!”

Knees shaking, I dug in my feet,

I was determined it to defeat!

I stood my ground,

New strength I found,

To conquer fear’s intimidating frown,

And make it shrink, and back down.

And then with God’s power I overcame,

I crushed that fear in Jesus’ Name!

Standing Tall

Tree standing tall
I stand tall above the rest

I have a legacy to fulfill

So I will work hard and do my best

I stand tall above the rest

Often times put to the test

But committed to do His will

I stand tall above the rest

I have a legacy to fulfill

An EKPHRASTIC is a poem that tells about a painting or photograph so as to describe it visually–no particular form.
I wrote this poem to describe my grand-son’s first mixtape cover which was drawn by my grand-daughter.
