Veterans Day

Veterans Day 2014--Shadorma poem--picture of a poppy from VFW
Original Poetry and Photograph by Leona J. Atkinson ©2014

Often when I make the drive into work, I hit the traffic lights randomly, sometimes they are red, sometimes green, rarely are they ever just one or the other, but today, it seemed every one was red.  That caused me to think that perhaps I was supposed to be stopping to think about something or maybe use this extra pause time to form a poem in my head.
Well, so it was….:)

On This Day

On this day, in the morn,
Fourty short years ago,
A tiny child was born.
On this day in the morn,
The title Mom was first worn,
And I was all aglow,
On this day in the morn,
Fourty short years ago.

September 21, 1973,
Was quite a special day for me.
It was a day like no other,
For that’s when I first became a mother.
