In sleep
My mind writes verse
I wish I could capture
Such beautiful poetic lines

Tonight I fell asleep before writing my poem to post. I kept dreaming of poems and writing some in my sleep. Yet, when I woke up I could not remember any of them. I wish I could have, as in my dreams they seemed to be very good. Thus, the reason I wrote this poem.
I met a guy named George today,
Quite a character was he.
97 years old,
And still full of glee!
He came into the room singing,
Every song mentioned he did know.
Verse by verse he’d sing them out,
He really stole the show!
Our Dance Team came prepared,
Joy and happiness to bring.
Yet it was we who were blessed,
As we listened to George sing.
George showed forth a true joy,
That only faith in God can bring,
As he smiled and encouraged all,
To just open up and sing!

Clerihew poem
Leona J. Atkinson 07-10-13
This poem was written in honor of NATIONAL CLERIHEW DAY which is celebrated on July 10 of each year.
The Clerihew poem was invented by Edmund Clerihew Bently, (1875-1956).
A Clerihew is a whimsical, four-line biographical poem, in an aabb form.
I’ve got a poem in my pocket,
A verse in my heart.
A vision in my mind,
As this new day I start.
I want to share them all with you,
As I go about my day.
Perhaps what I offer you,
Will encourage you in some way.
I hope my “Pocket Poem” will bless,
For it’s a verse from my heart,
It’s purpose is to bring happiness,
That’s my vision to impart.
So should we chance to meet today,
I hope you will stop for a time,
And let me share my thoughts with you,
from a pocket full of rhyme.
