Last night
The sun painted
The western sky orange red,
While fingers plucked harp strings
Inside.
Soothing sounds enveloped my ears,
Drowning out the darkness
Of reality
Outside.
A home
Just blocks away,
While my ears heard sweet words,
Others were being torn apart
Inside,
As the blackness of a cold heart,
Unleased its bitterness,
Drowning a soul
In tears.
Double Butterfly Cinquain
Portrays well the sharp contrast between what may be going on inside two hearts, two homes, while outside the scene is exactly the same. The outside doesn’t always affect the inside when the pain is deep. Well done, Leona.
Thanks Diane. I was trying to convey that. Although it was an experience I had last evening enjoying the beautiful sunset, plus attending a poetry reading by a lovely talented lady who writes poetry and also sings and plays the harp. It was such a soothing, enjoyable time for me yet unknown to me, until later, I found that just a few blocks away a domestic dispute was going on at a home. It just affected me greatly and I felt the need to express that somehow.
I love harp music. I would love to be able to play one, but I imagine it is rather difficult, and the cost of a harp would no doubt be prohibitive. I also love the cello and would love to play that as well. But at my age I will have to stick to my piano which I don’t play much anymore either. It is disturbing to hear people fighting. A couple of months ago the couple in the apartment next door started to fight in the middle of the night. They were literally screaming at each other. It wasn’t easy to sleep after that. And to experience it after you had such a pleasant evening it would be harsh on the spirit.
