Oregon’s Evergreens – Arbor Day 2020

Oregon Evergreens

Stately they stand

Strong branches holding new life

Sheltered from storms

As wind and rain beat

Steadily upon their mossy boughs

Stately they stand

Green giants waving

Strong branches holding new life

All across our land

Some are chosen

As lumber to keep people

Sheltered from storms

Triple Haiku Cascade

To exist as a nation, to prosper as a state, and to live as a people, we must have trees.” — President Theodore Roosevelt.

“Other holidays repose upon the past; Arbor Day proposes for the future.”

LEONA

Leona Alphabet Art Name Poem wall hanging
Leona Alphabet Art Name Poem wall hanging created by Leona J. Atkinson ©️LeonasDesigns 2020

Lingers long, loving life, liking leisure,

Evades every evil equally

Opts out of oral offenses

Needs niceness, no negativity

Adventurous, amicable, appreciative

NaPoWriMo Day 23 Prompt: write a poem about a particular letter of the alphabet

For today’s prompt I kind of adjusted it a bit and chose to use more than one letter so to fit into an Acrostic form and used my own name to fit my characteristics (as I see them to be) describing the words of each letter.

And….since I have an artistic side I was led to create the poem into a personalized alphabet art acrostic name wall hanging using some of my various original alphabet art images.

Earth Day 2020

Earth wearing a white mask

I looked

Around the earth

The trees were doing fine

As they whispered to the wind

Waving

Welcome

To the sunshine

That Spring had provided

Even though virus threatened their

People

I looked

Around the earth

The birds were doing fine

As they sang sweetly in the garden

Greeting

Morning

Cheerfully as

If the virus didn’t

Exist among many of the earth’s

People

I looked

Around the earh

The flowers grew and bloomed

Dressed in glorious colors

Earth’s fine

Neath the Masks

Face masks

This new normal is

Filled with masks and 6 foot marks.

A world so surreal

Senryu

Since this Sheltering in Place took effect I have only been going out to the stores one day a week to get my groceries and necessary supplies.

Each week I see more and more changes taking affect. More control, more limiting, more distancing and this week, today it was more masks.

It seemed everyone was wearing masks today, where in previous week just a few were doing so.

It just seemed so surreal seeing everyone all around me in masks.

Junk Mail

Junk Mail envelopes

Something we all get

Something we all do not want

Something we all throw

Such a waste of people’s time,

Labor, paper and money

Tanka

NaPoWriMo Day 20 Prompt: Junk Mail

I do try to find creative ways to use junk mail in my art like in my paper collage art, paper mache sculptures, envelope art journals and shredded paper packing but it still seems to pile up.

If you want some ideas of creative ways to recycle or reuse your junk mail just click the link below for: 35 Unique and Practical Ideas To Recycle Junk Mail Brilliantly

Yesterday’s Sunshine

Yesterday’s sunshine,

Was washed away overnight.

Rain clouds now I see.

What difference a day makes!

Things change so quickly.

Moments turn to memories,

Reminding me to:

Capture the sunny days,

Before they fade away.

Choka

Yesterday was 72 degrees, sunny, no wind, and a wonderful day to be outside in nature. Today is 52 degrees, rainy, chilly and cloudy. A great day to huddle inside and read or write.

Therefore, I am thankful I was able to capture some of yesterday’s sunshine in the video above as I happened to be outside in the right place at the right time! 😊

This video is now delightful to watch on this rainy cloudy chilly day that has arrived. Hope it brightens your day also wherever you may be.

Never Give up

Large rock, dandelions

Are you

Facing a rock

Being seen as unwanted

Seeing your chance for wishes

Cut down

Before

They had the opportunity to

Become airbourne

Never give up

Stand firm

Dig in

Let your faith grow

Deep, be tenacious, for

Someday, someone will stop

Admire

And see

Your beauty and your true worth

For we all have a purpose

That’s waiting to be

Fulfilled

Double Butterfly Cinquain

Today as I was out walking I stopped near this big rock where I saw two dandelions blooming and one that had gone to seed lying down on the ground as if crushed, probably by the landscapers mower hitting it.

It intrigued me enough to snap a picture and also was inspiration for this poem.

Behind the Veil

Tulips with filter effect

For now

We see all things

Dimly, as though they’re veiled

But someday, we will see things

So clearly

Cinquain

For now we see in a mirror dimly, but then face to face. Now I know in part; then I shall know fully, even as I have been fully known. 1 Corinthians 13:12 ESV

Spring in the Garden

Bird on a garden bench in Spring

On the garden bench

Listening for Sounds of Spring

The bumble of a bee

Mixed with robins chirring

Footfall on the path

The rustle of a brown squirrel

A dove’s wings flutter

Followed by dog barking

Sounds of life surround me
